Damals musste der Umgang mit diesen Waffen trainiert werden und so entstand aus solchen Trainingsgeräten im Laufe der Zeit ein Spiel: Das Dartbrett wurde zum Ziel und man bewarf es mit kleinen Pfeilen, die scharfe Spitzen hatten. Derjenige, der die Mitte des Brettes traf (das so genannte Bullenauge) wurde als Glückspilz bezeichnet. 1908 wurde dieser Sport offiziell und dadurch mit allgemein gültigen Regeln ausgestattet. In Großbritannien, USA, Deutschland, Australien und vielen anderen Ländern der Welt ist dieses Spiel fest in der Freizeitkultur verankert.
